The biggest change already hitting the live servers is an increase in the maximum queue search window. Previously, the system would start widening the skill range after 30 seconds to find a game faster; that timer has now been bumped to 60 seconds globally. For players, this means an extra half-minute of waiting in exchange for a significantly lower chance of seeing a Predator in a Platinum lobby.
Ranked play is seeing even more aggressive experimentation. Later in Season 29, Respawn will test a "solo-queue only" restriction for Diamond rank and above. This is a direct response to the community's frustration with three-stack professional squads steamrolling solo players in high-tier lobbies. By forcing everyone into the same solo-entry pool, the developers hope to level the playing field where individual skill and adaptability matter more than pre-existing team synergy.
Other significant tweaks include:
- Shortened Map Rotation: Ranked maps now rotate every 4.5 hours instead of 24, keeping the grind from feeling stagnant.
- Tighter Premade Restrictions: A new test limits Ranked parties to a 1-tier skill difference, down from the usual 2-tier gap.
- Unranked Bots: To help new players and maintain match quality during off-hours, bots are being integrated into lower-skill Unranked Trios.
These changes suggest Respawn is finally prioritizing the competitive integrity of the Outlands over the "get them in a game now" philosophy. For those of us pushing for Master rank, the solo-only test in Diamond could be the most impactful meta shift we have seen in years. It is a bold move that acknowledges that for a tactical shooter to thrive, the matches actually have to be fair.
